Arguably the most extraordinary member of the Olympian Pantheon, Hephaestus fashioned servants of gold who understood him, spoke to him and assisted him to reach higher peaks in his craft. Among other automata, Hephaestus sculpted golden dogs to guard palaces, bronze men to protect islands, and even the first mortals. The forge was an extension of his hands and his mind.

He gave form to the world he wanted.

As Hephaestus harnessed iron and fire to give form, inventors must now manipulate bits and atoms to bring back our vitality and craft. Technology is a means for both evolution and revolution — a nod and a protest for a new world we must actualize for ourselves. Automation reinvented our lives on individual and societal scales — defense less reliant on humans, manufacturing on our own soil, and food secure for a more populated future.
